Our First Visitors
February 4-7, 2005
It had been over five months since I'd seen my son and counting down the days until he, Heather and his best friend Trevor arrived was killing me. I realize the umbilical cord had been cut 21 years ago, but hey, never has that been more apparent than us being thousands of miles apart for such a long time. We were going to have a very short time together as they arrived late Friday evening and were leaving Monday mid morning. So, much to do, so much to see, so much to cram into such a short time. We had plans to go fishing the day after arrival with an overnight anchorage at Punta Mita, sleeping under the stars, grilling fresh fish, drinking margs...ahhhhh. It was going to be perfect. Fred and I have had pretty much great weather the entire time since leaving California with the last rainfall being in Ensenada in October. Of course, that was all due to change.....
The kids arrived February 4th and because the gods have a sense of humor, it was, of course, raining cats and dogs with wind gusts of up to 35 kts. Unable to go to the beach restaurant at the resort and have a sunset dinner as planned, we instead head out to a local place called Fajita Republic. Great food, great margs and hey, I've got my "kids" here, so what else do we need? We enjoy too much food, a few adult beverages and lots of laughs.
Time to head back to the boat, hit the sack and get ready for tomorrow. We are "hoping" the winds die out and the sun shines, but things are not looking too hopeful with the afternoon forecast we had received. Damn...no anchoring out overnight for sure with those conditions. A disappointment, but at least we should have some time out on the water and at least we're all together, right? All five of us with two dogs and bad weather in a 40ft boat. Hey, we're family, we can handle it.
We
awake early Saturday to find that the winds have "supposedly" died off slightly
in the Bay and we should be able to do some fishing and cruising. We take off
and within an hour from dock, winds are up to over 30 kts with 4-5 foot seas and
white caps all around. Spray is coming over the bow and over the side inside the pilothouse
door. This just isn't going to work, so we head
back and figure we'll just hang out and hope for a better day tomorrow.
Tomorrow is... another day, right?
Not to be idle and sit by and watch our precious time tick away, we hit the pool only to find out that the water temp in the pool has dropped just a bit with the recent turn in the weather and is slightly less inviting than the 'travel agent" had been describing. Also, it's apparently a Mexican holiday and the pool bars are CLOSED!!! On the upside, it's homemade pizza and wing night (the kid's one and only request for the trip), how easy are they? The kid's attitude....
...it beats the heck out of going to school and work!
The next morning brings
some promise of a cruising day. The winds have died down and the sky is
looking clear. Fred and I are up before
sunrise
to walk the dogs and prep the boat. We're going to try this again. Trevor wakes up and lends a hand as
crew. Look Jean, he's up at sunrise!!!
The rest of the crew catches a few more zzzzzz's....
Fishing lines get set and we're in search of Trevor's first
fish ever. It's time for some fun in the sun, or in the case of the
kids, catching a little nap time.
And a little bit more napping...
and just to make sure all bases are covered, a
bit more napping....
The fishing gods finally smile upon us and it's "reel time" for Trevor!
It's Super Bowl Sunday and we head back to catch the game.

Boat secured and washed down, the kids head off for a last chance at the beach, but don't get any further than the palapa bar....hey it's open and it's 2 for 1! Monday arrives and it's a sad day knowing they have to leave, but we've had a great time. We can't wait to see them again!
